It has worked when I've done it, but clearly there are other methods, as you and Elena have indicated. I should not have implied that there's just one way -- when I teach I try to underscore that people need to experiment. I would guess also that a person's success with any one method depends on a lot of other factors, such as the sequence in which you do various parts of the fitting, the exact angles of the seams and neckline, the fabric, etc., not to mention the particular silhouette you're aiming for. (There's a *lot* of variation in silhouette over the 100-plus years the style was worn, so techniques must have varied in period as well.) I haven't had to try a leaning-forward method yet, but I may at some point find a woman whose particular characteristics require it, so I'm glad to hear other people's descriptions. I'm still encountering new figure issues and having to determine solutions on a case-by-case basis, and you'd think after this many dresses I'd have seen them all. I should also note that when I made my first fitted dress (for myself) I was a small A cup. I grew (a lot), but I'm still using much the same method (though with many improvements to better emulate period practice, e.g. use of lining). --Robin _______________________________________________ h-costume mailing list [email protected] http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
