I have a few hundred patterns. (Yikes!) They're all in cardboard pattern
boxes covered in pretty fabric. I put a sticker on them with MFR and
number range. For example "B 2145-2290" has all my Butterick patterns in
that range. The boxes sit on the tops of the bookcases that line my
sewing room. I have separate boxes for costume/historical, craft, and
'mundane' clothing.
I started when I only had one box worth, so it hasn't been a big effort
to keep it up, covering new boxes and all. There's no index, but if I
need to know if I have a certain number, it's easy to grab the right box
and look.
