I'm not familiar with the Mirren film, but you're right about the Blanchett movie; for every costume that wasn't too bad, there were a ton of gowns that looked like bad Ren Faire escapees. I got particularly annoyed because the Robert Dudley character went around with his doublet open and his shirt collar untied! No sane man would have gone about in public dressed like that in period. (When Hamlet visits Ophelia in a similar state of deshabille, she immediately assumes he's run mad.) > And "Henry Vlll" with Ray Winstone and Helena Bonham Carter - why was > Anne Boleyn wearing sarees? I have heard so much about how bad those costumes are I've actually become interesting in seeing it--if only to justify my curiosity. > And "King Arthur" with Clive Owen, Keira Knightley in blue paint and > leather bra, Beats me why they seemed to think she was a Pict. :-) > and Ray Winstone (see above) in what I swear was an > English Civil War back and breast plate in one of the battles. Missed that little item. One thing I hated about that movie was how drab all the costumes were. The other thing is the way they kept mixing the potentially historical with the patently legendary. -- Cathy Raymond <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> "A civilized society is one which tolerates eccentricity to the point of doubtful sanity." --Robert Frost _______________________________________________ h-costume mailing list [email protected] http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
