I recently photographed an 1890s embroidered ladies jacket with embroidery
scalloped down the centerfront on both sides. When you lay the costume down
the embroidery sides seem to match up. When you put the jacket on a
dressform and button it up, the scallops do not line up correctly. The
buttons were not sewn in the correct positions. The buttonholes are visible
and are spaced at regular intervals.
