I was going to respond to this as part of my previous post, but it seemed
to deserve its own subject line...

At this point, I think they haven't assigned rooms yet, because they're
still working out the other panels. Last I heard, the plan was that they'd
ultimately make my room assignment based on the number of people signed
up, with a little excess if possible for walk-ins and same-day
registrants. People who sign up in advance are guaranteed a seat, and I'll
have someone checking off names as people arrive.

Which means if you sign up soon, you shouldn't have any problem
getting on the list. If you wait too long, it might be harder.

I know the CostumeCon people have really put themselves on the line in
giving me space for a day, and they're concerned that I show I'm worth the
resources they're devoting. Their primary purpose for signing me up is to
increase visibility of CostumeCon among people interested in historical
costume, and thus to increase attendance beyond the circle of people who
already know about the event.

If people are signing up for one-day memberships and registering for my
lectures, it will probably be obvious that they're most likely going
because I'm there. For those of you who decide to to attend the whole con
(well worth it!) primarily because you want to come to my lectures, it
would be useful if you noted along with your sign-up that my presence was
a "draw" for you to attend the con, if only to ease their minds that yes,
having me there really is helping broaden their audience.

Remember that registering (either for the full con or one day) is just one
step; to get signed up for my lectures is a separate step. Information on
how to do that is here:

I've attended one CostumeCon, and it was a *blast*. There were a number of
people from this list there, and I hope to meet more at this coming CC.
Perhaps we can have an h-cost meet-and-greet at some point.

If you're attending and would be willing to sit on a panel in your area of
expertise, I believe the planners are taking suggestions. If we want more
historic programming, this is the way to make that happen. Panels
typically have several "teachers," so some panels on historic techniques
would be a good way to bring together people who are doing similar work
for some face-to-face cross-fertilization ... and make the con even more
attractive to historic costumers. Just be sure to note that you don't want
to be scheduled opposite me (Saturday all day), so the historic-minded
people (including the panelists) don't have conflicts about what to
attend!

Pierre, one of the CC25 heads, is on this list -- Pierre, please correct
me if I have any of the above wrong. I don't know what the criteria are
for choosing panelists.
