I don't this it was obvious. I was told that Jewish custom considered engagement a promise and therefore no stigma was placed on premarital sex, so unless Joseph went around telling everyone that the child wasn't his (which would have nullified the engagement) I don't think it was obvious. Now as to the debate of whether God of a fashion impregnated Mary or that Joseph was the biological father and God imbue spiritual gifts....is a debate for another list. De
