to get there, if that makes sense!  not a  fabric shop, but sells lots of 
other crafty & embroidery stuff that's  really handy.
 
and up the road (away from the minster, and round the corner is a fantastic  
little bead shop that I don't know the name of (sorry, again I just know how 
to  get there from the station).
 
there is a fabric shop up a kind of alley, but it mostly sells patchwork  and 
modern dress fabrics (yet again I don't have the address - also don't know  
how to find that one, as have only ever been there once, but perhaps if the  
place he's staying has a yellow pages or a phone book he could look it  up?)
 
also, I'd recommend the regimental museums in york (
