check out the viking loom - see the website at _www.vikingloom.co.uk_ (http://www.vikingloom.co.uk) for the address - I don't know the address, just how to get there, if that makes sense! not a fabric shop, but sells lots of other crafty & embroidery stuff that's really handy. and up the road (away from the minster, and round the corner is a fantastic little bead shop that I don't know the name of (sorry, again I just know how to get there from the station). there is a fabric shop up a kind of alley, but it mostly sells patchwork and modern dress fabrics (yet again I don't have the address - also don't know how to find that one, as have only ever been there once, but perhaps if the place he's staying has a yellow pages or a phone book he could look it up?) also, I'd recommend the regimental museums in york ( _http://www.armymuseums.org.uk/amot-search/default.asp?Category=AMOT&Service=Museum-Display_ (http://www.armymuseums.org.uk/amot-search/default.asp?Category=AMOT&Service=Museum-Disp lay) ) - the dragoon guards has some interesting stuff on the scott antarctic campaign (captain oates was a d.g.)
