Our Walmarts in NJ have $1. and $2. per yard tables of fabric as well as many cottons for Home Dec and quilting. They also have some of the shiny fabrics and lots of fleece.

The $1 and $2 a yards are often "mill ends" from prominent manufacturers. I have found Kaufman fabrics here. If you don't grab fabric when you see it, guaranteed, it will be gone by your next visit.

Sometimes I find cottons useful for charity sewing.

Friends have found fabrics in patterns and colors suitable for American Civil War dresses!

It is definitely a hit or miss proposition.

Walmart carries garment quality fabric? I suppose it does depend on location.

They carry fleece, and shiny prom dress fabric, and I've seen pre-smocked sundress prints there, that's probably the majority of what constitutes home sewing today. :(
