I can't comment on the use of knitted garters (we're told that the garter stitch is called that because it was used for garters--can anybody verify this?) but for 16th century I've used wide strips of bias-cut fabric, tied in a bow. The bias cut stretches enough the the garters were quite comfortable, and the big bows...felt right. I hasten to add that this wasn't planned; I thought my socks would stay up better than they proved to, when they didn't I had to improvise.
cheap, easy, and it works. I can't provide documentation, but it seems at least as plausible as knitted acrylic garters. Emma _______________________________________________ h-costume mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
