probably already been answered, but could be one of two items.
 
plunderhosen (or pluderhosen) are the ones with trips, but they're longer -  
usually just above or below the knee.
 
trunkhosen are the short ones often seen with canions and hosen, but the  
apparent stripes that you see in picures are more likely to be depicting the  
massive amounts of pleating
