Yes. There was a christmas card sold by the Metropolitan several years ago, which showed a male donor in an elaborate houppelande kneeling before the Christ child. You could see that the soles of his hose, which were black (presumably leather) were quite different than his colored hose. They also had pointed toes.

I wish I'd gotten a copy of that card; I've thought of it often!
