Ah, the joys of recreating costumes drawn by people who don't understand fabric... :)

If the light cotton is not stiff enough you can line the top half of the sleeve with heavy net to help it hold its shape. Also, sometimes they put a stiff ruffle inside the top of the arm to help hold the fabric out.


Should I cut the sleeves on the strait or on the cross grain?

What does your pattern say to do?

When I made my dress a few years ago I cut it on the straight grain.
