Never tried this, but could you not use some of the thinner foam padding, cover it with cotton, and hide any fastenings (velcro, snaps, whatever) in it? Paint it to taste? I'm probably not explaining this well, but my thought is that plaster is heavy and can be uncomfortable. As for moving in it--it's why they call it "acting."
