True, in mileage they aren't far apart. One thing I learned after living many years over there was that you don't look at mileage so much as time it takes :-). I drive well over 400 miles in a weekend to see friends in Renton, WA while I live in Portland, Oregon. Time on a good day is about 2-3 hours. My last trip took over 6 hours thanks to roadwork combined with traffic.
Certainly don't mean to scare anyone off, but I've made that 50 mile trip in two or three hours (!) sometimes.
