     I was just reading that there is software that will assist in
reassembling images that have been scanned in parts from large copy. 
I've done it in Photoshop, just takes time.

     The problem, however, may be in supporting the original while part of
it is hanging off the end of the scanner.  Not a big deal for some
things, but for original photos and prints a lot more care is needed.

     I suppose you could stack books on either side of the scanner to
create a platform.  Also I'm guessing some graphics companies will
have a large flatbed scanner and can do the work, possibly even
allowing an art handler if you'd prefer to do that yourself.
