The following painters might be a goo place to start. Wenceslaus
Hollar for Dutch/English middle class ladies of the 17th century,
Abraham Bosse(sp?) for French men and women of roughly the same
period. William Hogarth for 18th century English of all classes.
There are extant etchings of women pirates, but right now I am having
a senior moment and cannot think of names of the "ladies". However,
the pirates/privateers were often dressed in better class clothing
stolen from their victims, so that is also worth bearing in mind.
Mary Read and Anne Bonney were two, plus Grace O'Malley. Read some
biogs here http://www.beaglebay.com/women_pirates.htm
