I would love to do a review of "Corsets" by Jill Salen.

It has clear and easy to blow up on a grid patterns. Some nice 18th century
patterns I haven't seen. Not a great representation of the early and mid 19th
century....a bit eclectic IMHO. Lovely late 19th century examples. 2 doll
corsets plus an 18th century project and a 19th century project...meaning
instructions on making the projects up. There is also a section with how-tos
on
sewing techniques used in the depicted corsets. It's all very clear but not
for
out and out beginners.

I think there are too many quilted, lightly bones stays in here and ribbon
corsets covered in the 19th century. Even these are very adaptable though to a
more rigidly boned style if that were what one wanted. The shapes are
there.... you can add bones. And the softer corded and quilted styles would be
better for reenacting and theatre....where the wearers might not want to go
heavily boned. This is obviously the idea behind the choices of examples. Ms
Salen
wants you to make up a pretty corset and wear it.
