I had a very costume-related Christmas, unusually. Between Christmas
and my birthday, a week earlier, I got all the back issues of Medieval
Clothing and Textiles, so now I'll have to sort out buying the new
issues when they come out. I also got "Woven Into the Earth" (the book
of all the Greenland textile discoveries - Hjerolfsnes and others). And
a fantastic book from my sister, who is a librarian and bibliovore - not
deliberately costume-related, but I'm sure the pictures will come in
handy. It's called "Women who Read are Dangerous", and it's an art
history of women's literacy - pictures of women reading, from a 13th
century Annunciation to a photo of Marilyn Monroe, with commentary on
the cultural context of women reading in that time.
Now I just have to learn to read and sew at the same time so I can get
through all of this and the projects I have to do!

What did everyone get?
In my case not a whole lot. I asked my husband for several costume
books, but when he gets off schedule he does this distributed
Christmas thing, where stuff arrives any time before February. He did
give me a copy of Cally Oldershaw's _Gems of the World_ (a reasonably
substantive guide for the amateur), and a 135-carat madeira citrine
pendant in a plain silver setting.
