I would suggest calling a local Masonic lodge. They may not have much historic knowledge. I've occasionally talked to members of religious orders who believe their habits have not changed since the order was founded, when that is definitely not the case. But your local modern Masons can tell you what is done now and what a modern Mason might consider offensive.
