Hello Sara Grace, I have no expertise on the 12th century, but I happen to be online right now...you'll hear from the experts shortly.
I do know that the scope of your question is broad, and to help the experts you need to tell us: where in the world is your 12th century woman? If I may assume "Europe," that is also a little broad: it may make a difference if she is in France or Italy or Saxony. Also, what class of person is she? Is she a peasant? A burger's wife? A minor noblewoman? A queen? Answers to these questions will greatly aid our experts, and also direct your research. There are great heaping loads (ok, maybe I exaggerate) of research available on this time period, both in print and on the web.
