It means woman in the Wappanoag language, specifically it alludes to a
matron or woman that was married and had children.
It really depends in the context it which it is used which makes it
derogatory or not. Hollywood movies didn't help.

I was surprised by this because I had never heard it used in such a way. I

always heard it used to mean woman or wife. Granted, it is a condescending
racist term but certainly not an obscene or sexual one. So I looked at wiki
to
see what it said. It does mention the vagina issue but said it didn't arise
until the 1970s where there are earlier usages of the word which seemed to
mean
woman.
