I don't know the answer, but howcome you don't want to close the
database on exit? Shouldn't it always be closed when the JVM exits
unless you want to use the database in a shutdown hook or something?.
I don't understand the log, someone qualified will need to answer that
one! :)

Maybe that is resetting the sequence...
And the MVCC setting is for row level locking, which from what some
others have said seems to help with deadlock issues when using hibernate.
