Hi, H2 still does create temporary files for BLOBs / CLOBs in the server mode, so performance isn't that great in all cases.
But BLOBs and CLOBs are never read fully in memory, unless there is a bug, or if you call a function that explicitly loads the object. So for example comparison operations including (X = Y) and (X LIKE Y) will try to load the object in memory (on the server side).
