Thank you Noel. So I force all connections but one to close and execute the 
SHUTDOWN on the last connection.

Any reason why I might better opt for SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATELY or does that 
make little difference.

The sleep is probably for the file system writes to actually flush? I take 
it nothing is going on at the h2 level after a SHUTDOWN?
