Compatibility with PostgreSQL is ok, IMO, because it's a major open-source 
engine.

And as long as someone else is doing the work, I'm not opposed to accepting 
such contributions.

Yeah, it's a little icky in the parsing code, but as long as it's only active 
in PostgreSQL compat mode, that's fine by me.

For me, it depends on how deep you want the compatibility to go - surface level compatibility is fine, but deep compatibility that requires adding extra paths through other more important data structures would be a stretch.
