I run all my sites on Joyent which run on Solaris/OpenSolaris and I don't have any problems. The only issue I've ever encountered was with Habari and it's use of GLOB_BRACE which I helped resolve in ticket #182. In this case GLOB_BRACE was documented not to be available on non-GNU systems anyway.
I run PHP on Solaris for dev too and I can't think of any issues that I've encountered to be specific to PHP on Solaris. PHP 5 runs like a dream on Solaris, so I don't think you need to worry about the use of Solaris as the base OS: it shouldn't make much difference to the operation of hp.o.
