Some separate thoughts that lead to a potentially interesting idea:

It's been a puzzle for me why Habari isn't getting as much press as it
could. I think part of the problem is that it's not getting enough
"word of mouth" promotion in the right places for people to take notice.

We seem to hit high points of traffic when we do releases (which
thankfully get larger as the version number increase), but then lag
between releases when we're not announcing anything or seemingly doing
anything.

Other blog/CMS tools like to post case studies about sites that use
their software, or about off-site articles that recommend their tool
over others.

From my reading of what people like about blog tools, it seems to me
that people's reluctance to use or try Habari stems largely from not
ever having seen it in use, or not having read a glowing review of it
from their favorite news source.

What I was thinking is that between the 0.5 release and the 0.6 release
we could have a kind of contest: Produce a 30-second screencast of your
favorite Habari feature and publish it on your blog.

You need not run Habari on your blog to qualify. We'd link to the
screencasts from habariproject.org if they link back. We might select
one or two to receive some kind of as-yet-undetermined prize.

It's been a mystery to me why sites like Download Squad don't cover
Habari, but I guess it's perhaps because we haven't asked them to? And
now maybe if we get a little ramped up with a following of users trying
Habari, we can have something to announce.

Plus, producing the screencasts can only bring more people into using
Habari, and providing the feedback that we need to keep the software great.

It would be very nice if we could do a similar promotion (including
theme and plugin contests, but also including regular users) to keep
energy up about Habari between releases.

Would anyone like to spearhead such an event?

Owen
