I'm not really sure what we're arguing about here any more. It seems
like most people are in agreement as to what should be done, with a
few small items to clarify, on which I think most people also agree.

What we'd like to do breaks down to a few simple statements that apply
by default in core (when this behavior has not been modified by
plugins or themes):

* Draft posts should only be shown in the context of the blog if a
user with access to edit them explicitly requests it.
* Draft posts appear in the admin listings only to users with
permission to edit them.
* Published posts are always shown in the context of the blog.
* Published posts appear in the admin listings only to users with
permission to edit them.

These behaviors aren't currently entirely instituted because we need
to apply the new ACL data structures in order for them to work. The
behavior you see today exists because we haven't changed it yet to be
what we all want it to be.

If this is the functionality you're looking for, then be patient or
help affect the change.
