Well I've been thinking about how we could make the install process as easy and fast as possible, and although we can't currently cut out the FTP process [1], we can certainly make it faster. Some hosts don't have the ability to unpack zip/tar files on the server, so a user would have to upload all files individually - not really as fast as it could be.
Other than the user choosing a different download on the website, I also think this would be the easiest way of them choosing between stable/dev builds on install. Even if the one-file-installer simply transferred our required files and directed the user to the current installer, it would be a step in the right direction IMHO. -- Alex [1] I had a crazy idea, that to save users from having to install an FTP program, they could input their FTP details on the Habari website and then transfer the files from there. There are privacy issues, but as long as all login data was erased after install, it would be pretty neat for people like my Dad who don't have a clue! :P --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected] For more options, visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/habari-dev -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
