I did some work on Launchpad for the french version. In general it is in a usable state, but it still need a carefull revision for consistency (not the same terms are always used for the same english word, like "post" could be translated in "article" or "billet") and sometimes it's difficult to translate sentences to french and keep it as short as it was in english.
Another problem I met in 0.6.3 was about permission tokens... some of them where translated and made a previous install unusable because the tokens where first created in english in the database. I don't know if this problem is still present. It didn't happen when starting from scratch with a french installation. Anyway, I highly recommend you to try it and give us feedback.
