Okay... This seems, as far as I can make out, to have been related to
some recent network problems with my ISP which for some reason broke
*only* this particular HTTPS login. I must have been able to log in
under Opera because I was using Opera Turbo at the time. Once the ISP
fixed its problem, I was able to log in under HTTPS after clearing
session cookies (doing which previously had no effect).

Not actually a problem with Habari, then, but one that somehow
affected my Habari installation apparently uniquely.
