I have no idea why the behavior changed... that would be something to 
ask the folks working on Rails.

As for Haml/Rails interaction issues, whenever something like that comes 
up, we have Haml tweak the Rails methods a bit so they integrate 
smoothly. Thus, at any given time there aren't any known compatibility 
issues.
