From the prepared script, it was good! Actions followed the script. For our LUG, some good points were mentioned by Thao, Thai and Quynh. For the purposes of getting more people knowing about HLUG, it was successful. I found the talk of CPV guy was met the goal of the talk (promoting/fostering the use of open source software), some points from Mr. Vinh IFI was really good, too. But the others were not clear. Observers won't know about the clear policy of the Government (which is very important in Vietnam - think about the Helmet case), probably due to the speaker only at the IT office level in MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology). Observers won't know how the company earn money from FOSS, as no clear explanation about FOSS business model. The talk followed the "traditional" method: staying out of the sensitive aspects, just talking about the general things (OpenOffice was exception), and conclusion was just AGAIN on the awareness: OK, copyright is a hot topic, we need to follow opensource, etc. It was what had said years ago, and in Vietnam ;-) NO proposed solutions for the promoting/fostering FOSS. And FREE (as in FREEDOM) of FOSS was just mentioned by HLUG, not by the editors or guests. Anyway, for FOSS advocating, it was really good chance. HLUG might have another chance to talk more about FOSS. Hope that the Editor could have good mix for having best effectiveness to the audience. Cheers, Binh.
