UNO binds with java, C++ and python : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Network_Objects http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Uno/Article/Understanding_Uno I agree that a OO.o extension http://extensions.services.openoffice.org is likely to be the most practical target, but not necessarily the best one as you you weed out other application that needs to use document converted to unicode (abiword, koffice etc) or the need of mass conversion or server software conversion etc etc... I'm definitively willing to spend some time of my life to make that work...
