This is its former name. The owner has changed since less than one year. It is now Trung Anh (http://www.trunganhid.vn). I know a lot of computer shops now install Linux (Fedora, Ubuntu, Asianux, etc.) by default to show at the shop but it's just to government > agencies :(. Whenever I come in a computer shop I often (not to say always) "tease" the vendors when I see that Windows is proposed with OS free computers by asking if it is a legal version or not ? Usually you'll see computers (especially laptops) that comes with Linux or FreeDos, running Windows instead as demo. Only at exhibition fair you could seldom see some laptop computers running under GNU/Linux. Here you can read on the stickers describing the computer : "OS : Ubuntu, Windows XP, Vista" which is quite different to what I am used to see and judge, so my post. It's also very new for this shop since I went in many times in the past to look for Atom-based computers (at that time no trace of GNU/Linux not to say Ubuntu). I intend to get in touch with the director of the shop (I know at least one of them from the business point of view) to interview them about this. >> Not done, music and demos displayed on three LCD monitors were running >> under Ubuntu (not Windows, as usual). This is also very unusual in a computer shop ! If you can find an other shop in downtown Hanoi with this feature, please tell me ! It's better than just FreeDOS inside. At least, it's tested with a real Linux distro. As Cavang said, it's an Atom based desktop. So, it's pretty sure that a modern GNU/Linux distribution will work out of the box. Of course the use of a live CD will confirm better (I even have a ready USB Bootable Ubuntu 9.04 to test these CDless nettops). Using Ubuntu Netbook Remix is very very appropriate with the small 16.5" LCD screens that goes along with these nettops. If you consider the price tag on a similar casing by Acer (offered with linux too - likely not Ubuntu and even not sure that it would be Linpus Lite - but for about 75% higher price - without monitor, but you got a DVD-RW and a DualCore Intel), this SingPC offer is awesome IMHO ! I would just hope that my home computers broke down so that I have the alibi to buy buy one right away ! > Several months ago, I took my friend to buy a laptop. When I bought one Acer laptop with Linux on it (3 years ago), they told me that I could not run a computer without installing Windows on it ; they were actually pretty right as you only had a command line GNU/Linux, Linpus brand, installed on the Acer ; no graphical interface like the one that was quite well polished 2 years later for the Acer Aspire One. I naturally installed Ubuntu without (unsolved) problems. > After some pull-push, my friend agreed to install Windows (cracked, of course :) to test > all the hardware (it does not have anything inside, even FreeDOS!). That's why I love so much Ubuntu because I "hate being obliged" to rely on others to be able to get my job done ! regards -- Vu Do Quynh (M.)
