Có một số trao đổi về sự kiện này của bạn An và Kevin (hiện Saigonlug đang sử dụng Google Group vì một số trục trặc của mailing list). Xin Hanoilug đưa ra ý kiến của mình.
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kevin Miller Jr. <[email protected]> Date: Mon, Jul 27, 2009 at 12:18 PM Hi An: Lets us schedule to have Software Freedom Day and Barcamp Saigon 2 on the same day, Sept. 19, 2009. We could host it at Quang Truong Software City. In short, you could combine both of these events and devote one room just for Software Freedom Day. Funding wise, QTSC may be a good choice to raise donations. So far, nobody has taken an active role in starting the second Barcamp Saigon. What do you guys think? I will talk to Tony more about this tomorrow. Kevin ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Anh Hung Nguyen <[email protected]> Hi Kevin, The combination of SFD and Barcamp Saigon 2 makes a lot of sense. How about starting a meeting for the organizers next week? I will send an email to BarcampSaigon2 now :-) Cheers, ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kevin Miller Jr. <[email protected]> Let me speak with Tony first since if it goes that way, a lot will be on his shoulders. I will not be able to help much this year since I have to focus on my company. QTSC is a good location though if needed, RMIT is open. An was good at organizing SaigonLUG so he should be one of the key organizers. Focus on the tech people this time, many people left Barcamp Saigon early last time since they felt it did not focus much on technology. Freedom Software Day is just one way to keep the the techies and web enthusiasts together. It can also help FSD get some funding as well with Barcamp Saigon. Ok, off for the day. Kevin ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: An Nguyen <[email protected]> I vote against the combination due to many reasons below: 0. Software Freedom Day is an annual worldwide celebration of FLOSS 1. SFD and Barcamp are independent events, sharing no common purposes 2. I'm pretty sure that if SFD is combined with BarCamp, the FOSS Community in Vietnam may boycott the Saigon SFD 2009 as well as SaigonLUG. I know this community quite well, so I think that bad situation may happen. About 1 year ago, there was an open source group in Thu Duc Dist. celebrating an "Open Source Advocacy" event in the National University's Hall. They used the Windows Laptop with Ubuntu LiveCD and they focused on selling their netbooks instead of advocate for FLOSS. After that celebration, that group had to suffer a lot of criticism from the community. They had been boycotted and "finished" by the community. I don't want to make the same mistake. Regards ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kỳ Anh, Huỳnh <[email protected]> We may refer to FLOSS and SFD as a small topic at BarCamp. This may be a good choice as BarCamp has a large amount of audiences and (in my opinion) BarCamp always welcomes IT ideas. SFD requires your greater effort. If An could tell what he wants/does in SFD we make up our mind easily. BTW I'd like to see our conversations in a mailing list. Regards, ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kevin Miller Jr. <[email protected]> HI An: I thought about this a little bit. First of all, Software Freedom Day is a day to PROMOTE open source software, not a day for Linux geeks to get together. Please remember that. That is a day that the FOSS community can come and promote open source. Barcamp is a perfect choice for it. For me, using Ubuntu LiveCDs to try to sell netbooks is quite ingenious. At least they found a way to monetize Linux, they should be applauded, not criticized. You never know, maybe ONE person might actually keep Linux by buying their netbooks. That one person may same day become CEO of a major company in the future. Keep that perspective. Due to An's concerns, combining Barcamp Saigon 2 and SFD will not be a good idea if the open source community will boycott. Maybe instead An can talk to Tony and GHP and have the event there at Tony's office. Just an idea. For Barcamp Saigon 2, you guys should just organize it yourself. If you do not mind waiting, you can combine it with the Gnome Desktop Summit tentatively planned for late November. This event will be funded. Just be forewarned, we do not want to be work with show boaters. Best of luck An with SFD :-) Kevin
