Just adding a little but more colour, Google discontinued their Google Reader 
product in 2013. This was a news aggregator (RSS feeds, Atom, etc) and at that 
time pretty much everyone was using it to aggregate their feeds.

Syndication was a powerful feature of the web at that time, but ultimately I 
think it wasn’t really compatible with page views and revenue.

When Google killed it, RSS as a standard was dealt an absolute death blow and I 
think that was the death of Web 2.0.
