You can compare -trace output with legacy make output to see if there is any compiler switch which may cause it. I made no attempt to 100% emulate existing switches, first because it's sometimes difficult to decipher from the old make sources, secondly because often they could have been different for different C compilers (there used to be several parallel make systems in almost all 3rd party projects).
The other reason could be that the list of files don't match the old one. Could be, easy to fix, but needs some closer examination ideally from developers or users.
