Hi Guy,

Hi Viktor,

missing .txt only disturb windows users because notepad add .txt
to each files ;-)

AFAIK .txt isn't a Windows file format, it's just happens
to be the name of plain text files, which are present on
every operating system.

Missing .txt not only disturbs Windows, because for example
on OS X or even Linux I cannot simply click on these files
and expect my default text viewer/editor to open it. Instead,
I have to choose a tool from a list, or in slightly better
case, it's considered text, but there is no way to associate
it with my favorite text viewer/editor. Also notice that
tool list includes almost all applications I have installed,
since OS X considers it generic "Document", so all apps get
listed.

Far from convenient. I'd still be interested what is the
notion behind leaving out standard (or quasi-standard)
extensions from filenames. And even more so, what is the
benefit? And what is lost by adding humble .txt extension?
what is recognized in pbly all existing systems.

Besides, true what Alex says, many (most?) Harbour users
are Windows users, so such convenience could probably help
all of them (while not hurting anyone else). Clicking on
INSTALL.txt is probably simpler and faster than clicking
'open with', and browse for Notepad from a list. Also, user
can't be sure if this is a text file by looking at its name.

[ BTW, since I use Far Manager (yet) for me it's not an
everyday problem, but as I'm switching to other systems
it starts to become one. ]

Brgds,
Viktor
