This station has been heard at least 10 year ago when I was in vacations in an island together with 1287 NW As most Greek stations rarely identify themselves they were both in my unIDed station list .. ................Till summer 11! Two years ago Iin our country house in Chalkidiki I was listening to them with Degen radio coupled to Tescun antenna loop and spent more than 3 hours in finally finding their ID and their contact info . (and by chance for 1287 but it is not our subject ) Some discussion of the DJ in charge revealed that there are7 DJs . Each DJ has his own studio. Most of these DJs are aged around 60s These studios are located in diverse points in Athens , radio linked (multiplexed) in to the main transmitter on 846 kHz of reduced power of 1 kW (on a transmitter of 3 kW ) Each one airs his prgram once a week and on Sunday all have their time slot with a 2 hrs ! They play 24 hrs per day In contrast to the other free radio stations in Greece they play a radically different music content . From the little I was able to listen , their music is of the era of 40-70s , with mostly western , jazz ,French , soul and the likes as well as Greeks (once a week,i) of the 30-50 era (mostly operas and operettas ) Each DJ has his own time zone program . Therefore each studio is time multiplexed Frequqncy is 846 kHz Reception as noticed in the start of this article is rather difficult in THS . Using R75 and 16 m horizontal antenna the signal is only S6 at best and can be received after 9 pm local time . Inside the house only loop antennas can make reception feasible. Outside the house only PL380 and the refurbished DE1103 can get better results ! A short testeing on 7-9 indside the house was S8 max on 16 hor antenna or 25/10 on the PL380 radio. MY verdict : 9/10 . Cannibal is nearly one of the few stations with alternative music (in MW ) in Greece following the near-to-demise of ERA .One of these DJs has verified to me that there are several other free radio stations playing a 'norm' quite different than most MW pirates Kudos and thenka to the team for helping me for writing this article ! my radio shack: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/zliangas/album/282394 http://delicious.com/gr_greek1/zak (all my pages )
