THAILAND/CHINA 17485 kHz VoA Tibetan sce from Udorn Thani scheduled 14-15
UT on Mon, Wed, and Fri only, suffer usually by China mainland jamming
co-channel.
But today they forget to switch off that S=9+45dB jamming signal powerhouse.
Was still on air at 1530-1540 UT slot, when checked even here in Europe.
Jamming signal is exact 10 kHz bandwidth wide block visible on screen,
+3 kHz extra wide low power noise either sideband.
The remaining VoA 9920, 17580, and 17760 kHz channels were undisturbted
though.

CHAD Tonight checked the 6165 kHz channel around 1730-1800 UT here in
southern Germany.
At 17.45 UT on May 6, measured two signals,
like CRI English on even 6165.000 kHz at S=9+25dB strength,
but also set the mouse on SDR screen at S=8 or -76dBm on the lower side on
odd frequency 6164.958 kHz, which is most likely RN Tchadienne N'Djamena.

DX LISTENING DIGEST 16-17, April 27, 2016
CHAD. 6165, RN Tchadienne: There is usually a little gap between
1757 (CRI off) and 1800 (BBC on) to indicate Chad activity which seems
to be running not always till after 1900, when the channel becomes
clear again. But not there in the gap on Thursday and Saturday. 73

Now when CRI is OFF at 17.58 UT noted TCD at S=9+5 or -65dBm signal level,
low modulation, undoubtedly in French language.
At 18 UT BBC Oman in Dari - probably - starts.

** BOUGAINVILLE [and non]. 3325, May 6 I`m awake at 1200, so quickly tune here
for NBC, talk and song at S4-S7, 1202 talk, recheck at 1205 it`s down to S2, so
suspect NBC has gone off in the meantime uncovering RRI Palangkaraya. Ron
Howard agrees with my obs on this yesterday: ``Glenn - May 5 was a good day for
NBC Bougainville reception! 1001 with PNG bird call; news in English till 1011
and then news in Tok Pisin/Pidgin till 1021. Noted NBC went off the air about
1153; RRI was not heard till later. Ron``
Today May 6, 3260 was already off at 1200, and 5020 Solomons was off when
checked at 1205 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA [and non]. 11825, May 6 at 1242, CNR1 jamming is echoing to make it
even worse, also on 11785 but not so duplicative. 11825 has IBB Tinang,
PHILIPPINES with Chinese at 09-13, while 11785 does the same at 09-15,
alternating PHILIPPINES and THAILAND sites (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** GAMBIA [non]. 15465, May 6 at *1900, JBA S4 signal, too weak to copy but
presumably Radio Free Gambia`s weekly broadcast via FRANCE. Did not come on
until exactly 1900, as I was getting a bit worried (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** JAPAN. 11965, May 6 at 1908, fair S5 signal in Japanese, which means it is
indeed NHK World, direct from Yamata, 300 kW on 305 degree beam, which is not
at all favorable for us (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 15575, May 6 at 1349, no signal at all from so-called
North American service in English of KBS World Radio at 13-14 (+ Korean at
14-15), which they doggedly insist on transmitting directly instead of a relay
in North American like for their Spanish. Yet, on 15590 we have S8-S9 signals
from ChiCom jamming and/or IBB Thailand (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KURDISTAN [non]. 11600, May 6 at 1901, very poor S2-3 signal with music,
which would be Denge Kurdistanye, which at this hour per Ivo is via FRANCE. I
usually hear it better, tho not very well, around 1300-1400 when site is
Bulgaria [SCB in Ivo parlance]. His schedule for D. K. as of April 30, and KCH
= Pridnestrovye:
0300-0500 on 11600 ISS 250 kW / 090 deg to WeAs Kurdish
0500-1300 on 11600 KCH 300 kW / 116 deg to WeAs Kurdish
1300-1700 on 11600 SCB 100 kW / 090 deg to WeAs Kurdish + 2nd hx 23200
1700-1930 on 11600 ISS 250 kW / 090 deg to WeAs Kurdish
1930-2100 on 11600 SCB 100 kW / 090 deg to WeAs Kurdish + 2nd hx 23200
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 17530, May 6 at 1710, VOA`s `International Edition` is loud & clear
from Greenville, on the G8 portable at a restaurant; 1727 to a USG editorial
about ChiCom torturing Tibetan monk dissident; 1730 on to silly ballgame show
and tune-out. This is our best time to hear VOA L&C from within the US (for
those of us beyond the GB skipzone, anyway). Mike Cooper notes that the 1300 UT
edition of I.E. which he would get on satellite or online, has been dropped
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1824 monitoring: confirmed Friday May 6 at 2130 on
WRMI 15770, and from 2130.5 on much stronger WRMI 13695. Also confirmed Friday
May 6 at 2330 on WBCQ, 9330v-CUSB, audible on the G8 in downtown Enid for the
annual Tri-State Music Festival parade of band noise. Next:

** U S A. 15825, May 6 at 1348, WWCR-1 with gospel huxter is S9+20, which means
sporadic-E opening again boosting usual weak signal too close for F2-layer
propagation at 1 megameter. But a narrow opening, not affecting 15610 WEWN at
similar distance, nor 15555-USB WJHR, JBA after 1400. Didn`t have a chance to
check for greater MUF until a few hours later when some W7 hams were making it
on 18 MHz, but no broadcast remotes heard on 25-26 MHz. DX map showed some 50
MHz ham DX during the day across the USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 17775, May 6 at 1404, KVOH already S9 but undermodulated, probably
with sporadic-E boost; by 1441 up to S9+10 and sufficient modulation in
Spanish; it`s already off at 1901 check rather than running overtime. Meanwhile
night/English frequency 9975 remains AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 9370, May 6 at 1911, WWRBS is still AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9275, May 6 at 1911, no signal from WMLK, while 9265 WINB makes S6-S7
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 790, May 6 at 1220 UT, end of National Farm Report, or plug for it in
the familiar voice of good ol` Orion Samuelson, then local IDs for
``K-Triple-X``, and more completely, ``K-Triple-X and 100.3 The Ride``. WTFDA
FM Database shows that is 100/100 kW KRDQ Colby KS, confirmed as `The Ride` but
not shown as // 790, and indeed with Hot AC, it may not be totally duplicative
but rather a sibling station to C&W KXXX, which is now surely on day power of 5
kW. Initially no QRM from anything, not even KFYO Lubbick, but then KURM fades
up, q.v., separable by wrist-twisting the DX-398 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 790, May 6 at 1222 UT, almost an hour post-sunrise, KURM fades up to
compete with KXXX Colby KS. This one is advertising something at Blue Springs,
KURM ID in passing as ``Curm Radio``, reviewing a seemingly local baseball game
of ``our Cardinals`` --- does that mean a namesake Rogers-Arkansas-area team
rather than ``their Cardinals`` in St Louis? Also geographically odd is the ref
to Blue Springs, which is a major suburb of Kansas City MO, and no such town in
AR, but maybe a place of springs (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 860, May 6 at 1226 UT, KKOW Pittsburg KS with birthday wishes to
various listeners, including a 1-year-old, something large market stations dare
not attempt if they want to have time for anything else, and then 1228 UT a
``Mexican polca for those still celebrating Cinco de Mayo``. This is a
(week?)daily spot when they always play a polka, another cute tradition. Some
of the b-days were advance for Saturday May 7 so presumably no polka
dedications then (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1090, May 6 at 1857 UT, on the NRD-545, very poor signal but can make
out an EWTN ID, so it`s KEXS Excelsior Springs MO, not bad for 8 kW ~300-mile
groundwave at midband, major lobe slightly south of west to hit Kansas City
best; considering how poorly the KC 710, 750, 810, 980 stations make it here
daytime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 9565, May 6 at 1306, open carrier/dead air at S7-S9, no jamming.
Once again, best guess is Greenville-B checking transmitter for R. Mart? but
that doesn`t start for another seven hours; or IBB Thailand, which has a
Tibetan hour at 1600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 11460-USB, May 6 at 1246, best axion here among the presumed
Indonesian QSO pirates is from somebody singing; 1255 more talking, 1258 at
least two singers competing. It seems these guys have no concept of ``over``,
taking turns. But more and more US hams dispense with that courtesy, too,
risking talkovers. Nothing much else lower except:
11405-USB, May 6 at 1303, weak talk, and recognize one keyword, ``komunikasi``
the Indonesian meaning of which is easily guessed correctly; then another one
on 11410 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ALBANIA. 9854.983 approx., May 7 at 0124, R. Tirana IS at S6, but as often,
it`s a strain to make out the lower modulation programming after 0130 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ARGENTINA. 11710.63, May 7 at 0119, RAE is S4 and JBM, unlike 24 hours ago,
and .12 kHz higher. Today`s Aoki might have changed it but still shows 11710.5
as of May 6. It does vary from day to day (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 6180.04, May 7 at 0125, RNA is S9+30 and hasn`t disappeared again
yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 11635-11705, May 7 at 0121, this 11670 RHC transmitter is again
splattering over a 70 kHz range; the others are not so bad. Audible listed
victims are on 11640, IBB in Uighur via UAE; and on 11700, IBB in Pashto via
Sri Lanka. Oh well, just yanquis. But anythings closer to 11670 are so blasted
as to be undetectable (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 9805, May 7 at 0151, multiple pulse jamming amounting to S4, way out
of synch since R. Mart? is on 9805 only at 10-13 UT --- but you can`t be too
careful if you`re totally paranoid about any contrary views getting into
Cubrains (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 9315, May 7 at 0148, horrible motorboating roar, S9+10, during R.
Cairo ``Spanish`` service.
9965.15, May 7 at 0153, R. Cairo strong but JBM in Arabic, lite whine
12085.02, May 7 at 0205, R. Cairo with another big motorboat roar, but not as
bad as 9315, during other Arabic service which just started, to last 5 hours
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GREECE. 9935, May 7 at 0152, ERA/VOG Greek music is still OK with no whine,
so must be the new normal! Let`s hope so. // stronger 9420 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MADAGASCAR [non]. 9665-, May 7 at 0123, nothing but Brazuguese audible, MWV
still AWOL. This time I also check for the next broadcast, 6190 from 0200 in
Spanish, and it too is totally absent. Is anyone hearing any of the scheduled
MWV transmissions? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NORTH AMERICA. 6876.02-AM, May 7 at 0110, pirate music; 0132, it`s S9,
instrumental music, pause and ``You are listening to The Crystal Ship``, then
faux-commercial for a dating website, bestiality.com with lots of
farm-animalistic SFX, hee hee. At least I hope it`s faux. 0135 another plug for
freeradiocampaign.com (during which my streetlite ignites with an RF noise
burst at *0135:44, clear sky after sunset). 0137 another TCS ID. Still going at
0211 with music at S9, vs noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1470, May 7 at 0202 UT, ad for Best Western Kirkwood Inn (St Louis
suburb) whence you may visit the St Louis Zoo and other attraxions. There are
no 1470s near St Louis, but a hotel would not be advertising locally anyway,
rather not too close but not too far, then something in Ferguson. It soon
fades, but I deduce this could be the St Louis Cardinals network, on which the
only 1470 listed state by state at
http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/stl/schedule/tv_radio_affiliates.jsp
is KGND, Vinita, which is now one of OK`s Sports Animals, 500/88 watts U1, and
this is after sunset. There is a broadcast game tonight from 0015 UT vs
Pittsburgh (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1520, May 7 at 0201 UT, KOKC with CBS News, huge signal as if they
are finally back on 50 kW maybe even ND if not direxional westward, instead of
longtime STA of paltry 12 kW ND, which they had even before a tornado broke one
of their towers a year or two ago. Can it be??? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU. 5980, May 7 at 0104, no signal from R. Chaski, so have they reset the
timer earlier already, or is it just off tonight? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** SRI LANKA. 11905, May 7 at 0114:20, carrier is on from SLBC but JBA; yet
enough to detect the mis-timesignal ending at 0115:17.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 7425, May 7 at 0207, no leapfrog mixing product from Greenville, tho
its co-conspirators, 7305 Vatican relay, and 7365 Radio Mart? are on at usual
strength. This anomaly has been observed before, perhaps attributable to some
temporary change in parameters, like a substitute transmitter and/or antenna
for one of them, incapable of providing the usual intermodulation. I bet it
come back henceforth (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 3250.08-AM, UT Sat May 7 at 0103, WBCQ`s new transmitter is on again,
during `Allan Weiner Worldwide` (as he announced earlier, tnx to tip from John
Carver). It`s very poor here in summer noise level, exactly the wrong season to
initiate it, but it should be all set for winter. Allan had said he would get
it operational once he returned to Maine, which he now has, but not feeling
well with the flu; GWQ.
I find 3250+ to be // and almost synched with 7489.95-AM. Also check 5129.91-AM
but it`s playing music instead (and 9330 is as usual off after 0100). In this
third semihour of show, he`s responding to real-time e-mail including reception
reports, and someone said 5130 had been on 30 second delay behind the others,
which was due to running thru Larry Will`s Area 51 server.
Allan fiddles with computers and at 0108:15, gets ``5110`` back in // and
synchronized with him on ``7490``. An hour earlier I had tried both WBCQ video
feeds but neither would connect, just displaying the WBCQ logo, and now he
confirms he`s not doing any video this week. Says he is endorsing Trump since
``we need a change``, altho there are a few things he likes about Hillary.
By next check 0136, 7490, 3250 and 5130 are all running TOM but unsounding like
BS himself. At 0142 I am getting a het from 3251.6, like a previous occasion,
and suspect it`s coming out of the same transmitter, rather than something
local here or external. Anyhow, by 0210, 3250.08 and 3251.6 are both off as is
5130, leaving nothing but BS on 7490 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9955, May 7 at 0152, WRMI with AWR Wavescan ending JSWC log report
with one as recent as March 30, so must be current show, then plugging for its
own QSL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5050, May 7 at 0130 check, WWRB is off, no Pirates` Cove. All other
possible WWRB frequencies registered by FCC with HFCC are also off: 3185, 3195,
3215 [rather: WWCR], 9370 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9975, May 7 at 0153, KVOH still AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 1550, May 7 at 0159 UT, KUAZ Tucson ID, and ad, er, underwriting
announcement for the Arizona Inn from 50 kW ND public radio daytimer. Its SR/SS
for May are: 1230 UT/0215 UT; June: 1215 UT/0230 UT. Soon losing out to KDCC,
and feared it was sign-off time already (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1550, May 7 at 0159 UT, just after hearing KUAZ, twist the DX-398 a
bit and get a Fox Sports Radio personality promo for local station, and ID as
1550 AM, KDCC, Dodge City, Kansas, 0200 UT into Fox News. KDCC is 1000/90 watts
U3, same westward pattern day and night, supposedly protecting the other KS and
OK 1550s, but sure doesn`t sound like it now, and BTW, official sunset in May
was 0145 UT (June & July: 0200 UT) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1700, May 7 at 0157 UT, horrible roar QRMing KKLF, but I do make out
an English ID for it underneath from Dallas-Fort Worth amid Tejana music (music
is feminine, so can`t be ``tejano``, unless your Spanish is really illiterate).
I also noted this a few nights ago; first feared it was from some local device,
but this is no weaker or stronger when I take the PL-880 out into the yard and
street, and to boot, it nulls at the same direxion as KKLF. Totally
out-of-whack transmitter? Is anyone else hearing this? Not a KKLF CE,
apparently (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** YEMEN [non]. 11860, May 7 at 0113, very poor S3 signal, but I do believe
it`s in Arabic, i.e. Republic of Yemen Radio clandestine, not a time I usually
hear it tho I can often detect a carrier.
Latest ROYR sked from Ivo Ivanov as of April 30:
0600-0900 on 11860 JED 050 kW / non-dir to N/ME Arabic
0900-1800 on 11860 unknown tx / unknown to N/ME Arabic
1800-2300 on 11860 JED 050 kW / non-dir to N/ME Arabic
2300-0600 on 11860 unknown tx / unknown to N/ME Arabic
HFCC shows the only competition for 11860 in A16 are: 0130-0230 CRI Nepali via
Kunming; 0300-0900 CNR Chinese via Lhasa; and, clearly imaginary: RRI Jakarta
at 17-18 in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 6131, May 7 at 0126, very hi speed RTTY at S9, INTRUDING (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 7448-USB, May 7 at 0208, 2-way in Spanish including whistling,
engine noise, something about ``don`t chew the bone``, a coded message? I
hesitate to label these intruders, since it`s really all the US broadcasters
which are intruding into the 7300+ kHz fixed band (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
