Subject: Marconi Radio International's schedule on 27 July 2016

Just a short reminder of our regular weekly brodcasts on Wednesdays. Marconi
Radio International will once again be on air tomorrow 27 July 2016, as
follows:

17.00-18.00 on 7700 kHz (USB Mode), 1830-1930 UTC on 15070 kHz (USB mode),
2000-2100 UTC and 2130-2200 UTC on 7700 kHz (USB Mode).

Our broadcasts include some kind of programmes now sadly missing from most
shortwave radio stations: an old style DX show in English ?Italian Short Wave
Panorama? and Italian "Panorama Onde Corte", both with lot of recent logs, as
well as a mailbag programme in Italian. Our station identification
announcements are not only in English and Italian but also in French, German,
Japanese, Spanish and Catalan.

MRI encourages reception reports from listeners. Audio clips (mp3-file) of our
broadcasts are welcome! We QSL 100%. Our electronic mail address is:
[email protected] - Please don?t forget to include your
postal address as some lucky listeners will also receive a printed QSL card.

Last but not least, we need your help! Please, share this announcement on your
walls and in your facebook groups or on your email lists with those who might
be interested. This should help increase our potential audience.

We hope to hear from a lot of shortwave listeners about our transmissions.

** ALBANIA. 9855-, July 26 at 0127-0134+ no signal from R. Tirana, so presumed
it isn`t going to show at all (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11780, July 26 at 0131 check, RNA is not putting out any audible
spurs circa 100/200 kHz away (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11760, July 26 at 1434, RHC with `Sonido Cubano` music show starting
song ``Para Nosotros Siempre Es 26`` commemorating the anniversary of the
Revolution which would turn Cuba from a ruthless capitalist oligarchy into a
ruthless communist dictatorship; how sad. This very strong signal continues to
be very distorted/overmodulated. I thought they might clean it up for the
holiday, ha2. Likewise // 15370, while // 17730 signal is VP. At 1500, 15370 is
already off, while 11760 is making frequency announcement and continues, as the
usual single all-day frequency. I thought they might have kept some others on
today too. There may yet be some special programming, anti-American rally at
the Plaza, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9315, July 26 at 0133, R. Cairo with usual humblob, but no side spur
this time. However, Wolfgang B?schel reported ``9315even EGY Radio Cairo
terrible audio signal, and at least 14 x 50 Hertz apart distance, string parade
like garden fence visible either sideband, S=8-9 strength at 0304 UT July 26``
-- 14 X 50 = 700 Hz or only 0.7 kHz either side of fundamental, a.k.a. humblob
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1390 (and spurs circa 1360 & 1420), local KCRC Enid published this
small display ad in the July 26 Enid News & Eagle: ``We`re changing the face of
sports radio in Enid! AUGUST 1 on 1390 KCRC!`` --- I suppose that mean they are
quitting ESPN Radio for another of the proliferating sports networx. I may not
notice as I avoid listening to it like the plague (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 29, KTUZ ``30-1`` Telemundo station, July 26 at 0515 UT is in
freeze-frame not only on the air but via Suddenlink Cable 21: a buxom but
unexposed woman at a table across from a man, with the hashtag lower right:
#SinSenosS?HayPara?so --- I keep an eye on it rechecking and rechecking and
it`s *still* frozen for almost another hour, when at 0607 UT it fitfully
updates to some scheduled infomercial before freezing again.

A little research shows that`s the title of a new novela which premiered last
week, produced in Colombia as a sequel to ``Sin Senos No Hay Para?so``. Altho
I`ve never axually watched it, I had found that an intriguing title, as
literally translated means ``Without Breasts There Is No Paradise``, and now
``Without Breasts There Really Is Paradise``. Wiki and other sources do not
explain what the title means, where it comes from, but the background to the
novel does not seem to be about breasts at all, let alone mastectomy or
augmentation. Perhaps it`s an obvious allusion for someone within the Latin
American culture; if so, what?

Altho the primary translation of ``seno`` is ``breast`` as far as I am
concerned, it seems the word is really extremely ambiguous, according to my
Random House dixionary: ``SENO m. hollow; hole; concavity; bosom, breast;
chest; uterus, womb; any internal cavity of the body; bay, cove; lap (of a
woman); interior (of anything), heart; gulf; math: sine; anat: sinus``. So
perhaps the title is a play on some of these (translated) meanings? I`m always
amused by how such feminine anatomy comes out masculine in Spanish: Viva el
machismo!

As for KTUZ freezing for over an hour, the show is scheduled at 8-9 pm and
again at 11 pm-midnight CDT = 04-05 UT, so the freeze probably occurred
sometime during the latter hour. Same KTUZ RF 29 transmitter also radiates
Univisi?n as ``36-1`` and Estrella TV as ``48-1``, both of which remained
unscathed. So was it an input problem back at the studio? A heavy storm was
hitting OKC at this time.

We also earlier during Colbert inexplicably lost cable HD access to KWTV 109 on
one set, also SD KWTV 9 on another, which supposedly reach Enid headend by
fibre-optic, not OTA; while KWTV continued without interruption on RF 39 thru
antenna, which is how I prefer to watch it unless there be some breakup here in
the DTV fringe area from OKC (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, July 26 at 0100, JBA carrier from R. Chaski until cutoff at
0101:59*, which is 25.5 seconds later than last check 4 nights ago, July 22
until 0101:33.5*, or 6-3/8 seconds later per (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1835 monitoring: confirmed Monday July 25 after 2330
on WBCQ, 9329.92-CUSB, poor at S8. Next:
Tue 2130 WRMI 15770 to NE
Tue 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100 WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7490-, UT Tuesday July 26 at 0102, tuning in WBCQ exactly one week
after I heard an unscheduled airing of `Church of the Subgenius Hour of Slack`
--- yes, here it is again, ``subgenius`` soon mentioned, interview with someone
from Devo, mention Garden City and WLIW(?); 0104 rules of Bob, let there be
slack, etc., etc. But cut at 0115 to AW`s plug for new programming on WBCQ,
canned The Planet ID & IS, 0116:35 join Brother Scare in progress (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7505vv, July 26 at 0122, WRNO is still off again tonight (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775, July 26 at 1431, no signal from KVOH, not even a JBA carrier.
Supposedly *1400, but propagation is unfavorable; recheck at 1610 it is on and
fairly audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13559.6-CW, July 26 at 0117, pipper at the rate of 80/minute, but
a couple times two pips were linked instead of a break between them. Competing
with wideband CODAR pulses at a different rate. Previously had this or a
similar pipper close to 13562. This in lieu of any regular IDable beacons on
the ISM Part 15 Band, tho I did once have a near-imagination-level copy of
K6FRC? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15370, July 26 at 2250, RHC Spanish is overmodulated & distorted. //
11670 is worst by far, also splattering out some 25-30 kHz both sides. // 11760
is a little better with less splatter. // 13740 is undermodulated, in this case
a blessing. // 11840 is about right.

11880, July 26 at 2300, RHC English with OK modulation, ``Ed Newman`` opening
for the 26 of July, 53rd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Garrison
initiating the Revolution, pointing out that 25 & 27 July are also holidays in
Cuba for workers, except the media which keep on going. 2303 into ``news``
co-presented by ``Rita Moreno`` (no, not *THAT* Rita Moreno; this one also
speaks better English than the other YL they use.)

OMG, searching my archive, it`s been *two years* since I last uttered, ``PATRIA
O SUERTE, ?PENSAREMOS!`` --- a parody of the Cuban Commie Motto, as in DXLD
14-31 for that year`s 26 of July. Before then I had said it at least once a
year, sometimes multiply, since 2004y, but missed 2015, sorry!

A Google search takes us further back to: Search Results

I renew my challenge for anyone to scrawl it on a wall or public place anywhere
inside Cuba, and provide photographic evidence of that. Then my mission shall
be fulfilled (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 9420, UT Tuesday July 26 at 2357, ERT with dead air at S8, but
nothing on 9935. Must be warming up for VOG broadcast from 0000 July 27 --- but
some nights it`s still missing. Recheck at 0021, Greek music on 9420 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5896.50-USB, UT Wed July 27 at 0011, a MARS-like net including one
AAT6## callsign mentioned; but then in contact are NCS307 and stronger NCS104,
the latter spelt fonetikaly so certain; one asked the other to call for
additional check-ins for the Region 6 Shares Net: none heard by him; then it`s
NCS308 saying stand by for an NC62(?) broadcast, followed within a minute by
digital racket. This may explain why WWCR-4 doesn`t come up any earlier than
0200 on 5890.

Of the 71,750 posts so far on the UDXF yg by 3688 members, the only hits on
5896.5 have something to do with Russia. SHARES, however, is widely reported on
other frequencies.

Some searching on SHARES and the callsigns leads to:
NO LINK:

BINGO:
https://www.dhs.gov/shares

``The SHAred RESources (SHARES) High Frequency (HF) Radio program, administered
by the Department of Homeland Security?s (DHS) National Coordinating Center for
Communications (NCC), provides an additional means for users with a national
security and emergency preparedness mission to communicate when landline and
cellular communications are unavailable. SHARES members use existing HF radio
resources to coordinate and transmit messages needed to perform critical
functions, including those areas related to leadership, safety, maintenance of
law and order, finance, and public health.

SHARES HF Interoperability Working Group

The SHAred RESources (SHARES) High Frequency (HF) Radio Program
Interoperability Working Group (IWG) provides the national security/emergency
preparedness (NS/EP) community a forum for addressing issues affecting HF radio
interoperability. The SHARES HF IWG, made up of 143 members representing 110
organizations, conducts HF technical reviews, provides regulatory guidance and
direction for administration of the SHARES network, and promotes awareness of
new HF radio technologies. The SHARES HF IWG meets on a monthly basis,
typically on the last Friday of each month. The SHARES HF IWG also fosters
interoperability of NS/EP HF radio systems through examination of regulatory,
procedural, and technical issues`` --- and much more.

But of course, searching that site gets no hits on the frequency or callsigns I
heard either (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1835 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday July 26 at 2130 on
WRMI 15770, very poor here but the only one remaining aimed at Europe, and we
hope reaching there well. Also confirmed Tuesday July 26 after 2330 on WBCQ
9329.891-CUSB, good with S9 peaks. Next:
Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100 WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7489.97, UT Wed July 27 at 0001, WBCQ surprises with `Dead Frog
Radio`, the prisoner host ``f*c*i*g glad to be back on the radio``, show with
``stupid stuff, very very autistic, fake news, to entertain, amuse and
offend``; and says music here is some that he can`t hear any other way in
prison. This is the show which had been airing UT Sundays at 0400 on same WBCQ,
but which I missed this week. If he`s not putting us on about being in prison,
having his own ``free speech`` show on shortwave must be a great way to feel a
little less confined! After discovering this myself, find a post from Larry
Will, WBCQ webmaster to the DXLD yg:

```WBCQ Schedule Changes --- From Robert at master control:
Greetings from Monticello! 2 changes to 7490 schedule
(1) "Deadfrog Radio" on 7490 is *moving* from Saturday midnight (i.e. Sunday
morning) to Tuesday 8 pm [EDT] (replacing AWWW rerun)
[Check out this show if you can - He plays very edgy music (like Tenacious D)
and has some very creative skits and fake news --- Definitely *adult*
entertainment, and not for the faint of heart. lw]
(2) "Understand Your Adversary" on 7490 Wednesday 8 pm [EDT] has been *renamed*
"Know Your Adversary" --- Thanks, Robert`
[UT:] Deadfrog Radio is now Wednesday 0000 on 7490; Know Your Adversary is
Thursday 0000 on 7490. Regards, Lw`` (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING department: major TV network newscasts, BBC,
NBC, CBS, ABC, are originating from the arenas containing Democratic and
previously Republican national conventions. For ``ambiance``, we have to put up
with the super-loud PA and screaming delegates even during news items having
nothing to do with American politix. If someone is deliberately mixing the
audio at that level, they are incompetent and should be expelled.
If the positioning of the anchors with no barriers between them and the arena
means their own mikes can`t help but pick up that much background noise, how
RUDE to the TV audience! The should do their anchoring from soundproof
studios/booths, anywhere near or far, and could still show the crowd in the
background with a minimum of noise. I can hardly make out what Scott Pelley on
CBS is saying, but David Muir on ABC is free of the noise when not conversing
with someone on the floor (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
