Subject: [HCDX] AIH85 DXpedition Report from Finland
Message-ID: <[email protected]>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

One again I have spent an intensive week of AM DXing in Aihkiniemi in
northern Finland. I got some nice new catches especially from Australia,
Japan and the Philippines. Here's my report of what was heard up in
Lapland, and what else I did over there - mostly fixing antennas and
shooting the landscape in fall colors:
http://www.dxing.info/dxpeditions/aih85rep.htm

If you'd like to experience all this by yourself, you're most welcome.
All of our 13 Beverage antennas, each 1 km/3,000 ft long, are working
well. We still have a few weeks of vacancy during the winter season. For
details, here's more info:

Subject: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs September 30-October 1-2, 2018
Message-ID: <[email protected]>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8

** BOLIVIA. 3310, Oct 2 at 0127, M&W conversation, uncertain language,
presumed R. Mosoj Chaski, Quechua? I had long given up hearing this
one due to a local mixing product of KGWA 960 x 2 plus KCRC 1390, but
now the audio does not match either one of them. To boot, has ACI from
3308-USB, probably MARS (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5025, Oct 2 at 1346, R. Rebelde is still S9-S6 an hour after
sunrise here, and much more there, but dead air or maybe JBM.
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6099.238, Oct 1 at 0656, RHC English via the off-frequency
transmitter again (later that same day, Wolfgang Bueschel reported via
remote SDRs in New Jersey and/or Alberta: ``6099.9975 CUB RHC Bauta
site, Spanish language 11-13 UT scheduled, S=9+10dB heard at 1224 UT
on Oct 1st. Heavy distorted audio channel, QRM interference oddly of
co-channel strange peak signal on odd fq 6099.239 kHz`` --- but as I
have logged several times before during both transmissions, the latter
is RHC as modulated, and no 6100.0 to go with it).

Back at 0656, the other RHCs: 6000 is off; 6060 on with music; by
0701, 6165 is in unscheduled Spanish news instead of English. By 0702,
6099.238 and 6060 have dropped to dead air, carriers still on.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13700, Oct 1 at 1409, this RHC is off; supposed to run at 13
-15. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Next day at 1348 check it`s on
again (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6060, Oct 2 at 0613, RHC English is VG but overmodulated so
that it splatters up to plus/minus 10, bothering 6070- CFRX. 6165 is
off; 6000 = 6100 at S9+10 and same undermodulation. At 0622, S9+30
open carrier is still on 5040. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 7335 & 7365, Monday Oct 1 at 0704, nothing but
jamming, making me wonder if Radio Mart? has resumed a MM silent
period? But still audible on 6030 over jamming. Maybe the MUF has
plunged. Now I have a chance to check 11860 which allegedly is also on
M-F from 0700 --- nothing audible there, of course.

23 hours later, Oct 2 at 0605, both 7365 and 7335 are VG inbooming
over jamming, with RM at S9+10/20, ending a VOA Editorial in Spanish
about human rights, i.e. the Fourth Amendment which is totally
inapplicable in Commie Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 3344.862, Oct 2 at 1213, JBA carrier, surely the
reactivated RRI Ternate, and much weaker than 3325. First measured
here, and then find it matches exactly where Wolfgang Bueschel found
it later that hour: ``3344.862 INS RRI Ternate mx program heard at
1247-1250 UT, just above threshold S=5 level, S=4-5 or -94dBm level
much fluttery noted in SDR unit at Brisbane Queensland`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA. 7254.937, Oct 2 at 0608, VON with two audios mixing
equally, both Hausa? What a mess; but at 0611 I can tell one of them
is in accented English; unseems a voice-over translation situation. If
so, extremely clumsy and self-defeating (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 17615.064, Oct 1 at 1413, SBC is poor S8-S9 with
Qur`an and markedly off-frequency, unlike // 17895, or not // 17705,
which in fact are the OSOB. Similar situation 23 hours later (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 4102.9, Oct 2 at 1218, JBA CW sending W as ID, and several
number sequences. HF Undergrounders refer to this beacon as Windy,
since it allegedly broadcasts wind speeds from some remote
southwestern desert. Frequency seems to vary in the 4102-4103 range
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1949 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
Sept 30 on WRMI at 2130, not only 7780 but for at least the second
week also on unscheduled 9955, very poor, and poor respectively. Also
confirmed UT Monday October 1 until 0333:15 on Area 51 via WBCQ
5129.84, S9-S9+10, so must have started at 0304:30. Also confirmed UT
Mon Oct 1 after 0330 on WRMI webcast but inaudible on 9955, just pulse
jamming.

WORLD OF RADIO 1950 contents: Armenia, Australia, Brasil, Canada, Chad
non, China, Colombia, Cuba, France, Germany, Greece, Hawaii, India and
non, Italy, Japan, Kurdistan non, Kuwait and non, M?xico, Nepal,
Netherlands non, Per?, Sikkim, South Carolina non, Tibet non, USA;
receivers; and the propagation outlook.

WOR 1950 ready for first airing UT Tuesday October 2 at 0030 on WRMI
7730; confirmed, very good. Alan Gale, England, reports: ``WoR on WRMI
Live Stream 0100 UT Tuesday 2100 EDT --- Hi Glenn, I'm just listening
to World of Radio on the WRMI Live Stream, though the programme isn't
listed in the WRMI schedule, just a religious programme called
'Coming Home'. Time is 0100 UT on Tuesday 2nd October here. This
wasn't shown in your latest post so I thought you'd want to know about
it. Alan`` Indeed, that`s news to me, so must also have been on 9955
immediately repeating after the 0030 on 7730. Next:

2030 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5950 to WNW

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7570, Sunday Sept 30 at 2123, this WRMI is already on, and
in Japanese, so another expansion with Alameda Bible Fellowship. More
and more outdated skedgrid still shows 7570, WRMI-11 starting at 2300
with TOM, except Sundays 2200 with VORW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5850, Monday Oct 1 at 0655, WRMI IS & ID loop prior to top-
of-hour; 0703 beepery underway from Broad Spectrum Radio // even
stronger 7730 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9395, Tue Oct 2 at 0222, WRMI with Oldies including ad at
0228, NOT Wavescan, which had been stripped 7-days-a-week at 0200.
Sked still shows it but a blank in the frequency box. 0230 abrupt
switch to R. Tirana IS and opening English ``on internet only`` as
scheduled UT Tue-Sun (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5010, Tue Oct 2 at 1226, WRMI S9/S9+10 Bibling in French, no
doubt ABF; WRMI-14 supposedly on air only at 2200-0100 & 1100-1200
(Friday 1230). Recheck at 1237 is in Portuguese (not Brazuguese);
rerecheck at 1345 is off. Also regularly found after 0100 often in
French. On 181-degree antenna to Caribbean; reception of RMI`s lowest
frequency has been improving seasonally (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5970, Oct 2 at 1229, WEWN with *no* carrier but extremely
distorted modulation, more to the lower side. No good with BFO either,
but clearest when tuned in FM mode circa 5966-5967! S9+20. As usual
after 1230 is live translation into Spanish of morning mass in
English, voice under. Recheck at 1347, now back in whack, including
5970 carrier in AM (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 2 at 0133-
0138: 531, 549, 585, 621, 774(2), 837, 882, 909, 936, 954, 999, 1017,
1044, 1089, 1098, 1107, 1125(2, one of them minus, Belgium?), 1134(2),
1215 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, Oct 2 at 1158-1202:
1098, 837(2), 774, 1035, 1548. Again at 1204-1209: 1017, 882(2), 828,
747, 702, 612, 594(2). Also something on about 1367.904 which I
suspect is from a local device (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4810, Oct 1 at 0655, JBA carrier vs CODAR, hash on plus
side. I have been wondering if previous logs of this could be Radio
Logos, Per?, but no one has reported it during waking hours so
unlikely it would be on at this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
