            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Folks, I'm putting today's show in the truly "must watch" category (not that others
aren't but this one is particularly special)...So who saw the Armey interview last
night?? Pretty hot huh? Seems to be making some waves out there...If you missed it,
we've been re-airing it on MSNBC all day plus we'll re-play a chunk of it
tonight...I'll try to get the video and/or transcript up on the site sometime soon...

In the A block we'll do Tarazi and Rose on the release of Arafat, the stand off in
Bethlehm and what comes next..."Blowing kisses to children and flashing V-for-victory
signs, Yasser Arafat toured his battle-scarred West Bank capital on Thursday, vacated
only hours earlier by Israeli troops and tanks."

The B block big story will be Congressman J.D. Hayworth and Congresswoman Sheila
Jackson-Lee reacting to Armey's comments and doing the Israel resolution in the House
today...Should be a hot one..

"Despite White House reservations that lawmakers could undermine a fragile Middle East
peace drive, the U.S. Congress was set on Thursday to approve resolutions expressing
solidarity with Israel in its fight against 'terrorism.'" (Reuters)

"...In a passage condemning Arafat for "the ongoing support and coordination of
terror," the words "and coordination" were deleted. An aide said DeLay may "add
language saying there are both Israelis and Palestinians that are interested in peace,
but retain language making it clear that Arafat is not one of those Palestinians."

"...White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said Mr. Bush is concerned that 'no foreign
policy can survive 535 different secretaries of state.'"

Great one here...The D block will be the cloning debate with Congressmen Jim Greenwood
(R-PA) and Congressman Dave Weldon (R-FL)..."Normally steadfast in his support of
President Bush, Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch joined Democrats Edward Kennedy and Dianne
Feinstein Tuesday in support of allowing human embryos to be cloned for medical
research." (AP)

E/F will be famed author Gore Vidal on why America is to blame for September
11th..."The New War on Freedom...Give me liberty, or give me . . . what? Security?"
