The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Today is "stress free" Friday which generally means it's going to be the most
stressful day of the week...We got some good stuff planned for you (romantic dinner
optional)...UN Special Envoy to the Middle East, Terje Road-Larson will join us to
discuss the upcoming international confab (announced by Powell) on the Middle East and
the fallout on Jenin...Larson was the first guy to raise concerns about Jenin and was
quoted as saying, after touring the refugee camp there "Israel has lost all moral
ground in this conflict."
We'll also do Ned Walker on the administration's Saddam split..."President Bush's
hopes of building a strong insurgent group to replace Iraqi President Saddam Hussein
have been set back by feuding among U.S. officials over who should lead the
opposition, administration sources say." (USA Today)
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washdc/2002/05/03/iraq-policy.htm
Hoagland: White House rebuffed Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage's effort to
funnel $5 million to the Middle East Institute, a Washington think tank working to
promote rival Iraqi groups. Armitage had failed to notice that Ned Walker, the head of
the institute, had publicly scorned President Bush's "axis of evil" metaphor as
"ridiculous." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A24666-2002May2.html
"U.S. Sets Summer Talks on Mideast...The Bush administration has begun planning for an
international peace conference on the Middle East early this summer to accelerate

I told you Armey was making some waves!
"On the eve of the vote, the House majority leader, Dick Armey of Texas, endorsed a
position flatly at odds with the precepts of the Oslo peace process. "I'm content to
have Israel grab the entire West Bank, he said in an appearance on MSNBC's "Hardball
with Chris Matthews." He added under questioning, "I happen to believe that the
Palestinians should leave." Hours later he tried to soften his remarks, saying he
simply meant that Palestinians who supported terrorism should be exiled. " (NYT)
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/05/03/politics/03CONG.html
In an interview Wednesday night on "Hardball With Chris Matthews," Majority Leader
Richard K. Armey (R-Tex.) said he would be "content to have Israel grab the entire
