The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
This has gotta be a short one today folks because I got a lot on my plate: looking for
polling data for Luntz (A/B block), reading through Eliot Cohen's new tome "Supreme
Command" on the tension between civilian and military authority (C Block)...Hey, don't
yawn...It's actually not as academic as you might think...We'll explain how and why
this tension may exist in Bush's White House over Iraq...Dubya is actually reading the
book at Crawford (you'll recall that from a previous "Real Deal" segment)...
Plus, I got the Buzz stuff I'm working on as well...Dem strategist Donna Brazile is
back from a bout with some illness or another (She was traveling around the country
for DNC stuff where she picked something up...It caused bad dehydration...I
recommended Gatorade and now she's back in action)...She'll face off with GOP
strategist Dave Winston...
In addition to Luntz at the top, we've got Howard (Fineman, not Mortman, he's the Real
Deal dude) who'll do the politics at 1600 Penn Ave. (NW to be exact) on Iraq and
congressional authorization...See NYT piece below on the matter...We'll get the
public's pulse on all this with Luntz as well as Dubya's numbers...Plus, we'll take
Congress' temperature with Representative Curt Weldon...
Last night, Texas executed a 17 year old kid...Is that morally right? We'll debate it
in D with Dudley Sharp of Justice for All (you'll recall him from Barnicle's show a
couple of years ago)...He's a death penalty advocate...Vincent Schiraldi from the
Justice Policy Institute will take the opposition...You'll note Schiraldi's name is
remarkable similar to Vince Guaraldi, the famous Jazz musician from San Francisco
wrote all that wonderful music for the Charlie Brown cartoon series...I gotta confess
I'm a huge fan...I even listen to the Christmas cd in the Summer..
And what's this about the Saudi's offering the U.S. a gift horse to commerate 9/11?
We'll look it in the mouth in today's Real Deal...Plus, why is Hillary popping up in
campaign ads across the country....
The Briefing was written, compiled and edited by Dominic Bellone, deep inside the
Beltway...We're going to have lots of fun tonight on Hardball so join us...
