The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
First off, Caddell's in the House tonight...That's reason enough to watch tonight, if
not set the VCR...Caddell's fired up about the oil angle in Iraq ("I'm gonna go nuts
tonight")...Scarborough and Molinari are in the lineup as well...We have a special
treat for you in the back half which I'll get to in a minute...
We'll lead off with this new idea of exile for Saddam...Rummy floated it yesterday and
Condi and Powell commented on it as well...Essentially it would be a deal for him to
voluntarily step down and avoid war crimes prosecution and all out war...In addition
to the latest Iraq news, we'll also get into the news of Libya now chairing the UN
Commission on Human Rights...Yes, that wasn't a typo...Libya
Plus, today is MLK day...We'll take a look at it in the context of affirmative action
and the brewing divisions within the Bush administration on the Michigan admissions
policy...Late Friday Condi came out and said race should be "a factor" in considering
applicants, plus Colin Powell said yesterday he disagreed with Bush's position on the
Michigan case...Powell has offered differing visions of how to handle Saddam as
well...Is he off the reservation?
In the back half we'll play cuts from a New Hampshire focus group of voters Luntz
conducted recently...The big questions: What's the mood of the country?, Where do
voters stand on the big issues of the day? And most important, what do voters want to
see in a presidential candidate? I urge all those working for presidential candidates
out there to pay close attention...
Howard and Luntz will slice and dice the focus group clips...
Btw, Chris is in New Orleans at the NAPTE (National Association of Television Program
Executives) conference so you'll notice a different set tonight....Pls don't be
alarmed...
