            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

On the eve of the Roe v. Wade anniversary, we devote the front half of the show to a
discussion on the last 30 years of legalized abortion, where the issue is heading and
how it will play in the '04 presidential race...Tonight is the big NARAL candidate
"cattle call" dinner in Washington...All the major Dem candidates are expected to
attend and speak...Tipper Gore and Madeleine Albright will be there as
well...Hardball's own Howard Mortman is expected to attend and has assured me of
Briefing write up tomorrow...

Kim Gandy of NOW, Roberta Combs of the Christian Coalition and Gloria Feldt of Planned
Parenthood will join us among others...It's snowing and cold today in DC but I'm
expecting things to heat up rather quick out of the gates...

In the backhalf, we'll do the Luntz-Howard focus group thing from New Hampshire with a
twist...Tonight we'll roll some clips of the Dem candidates talking on MTP with the
dial overlays...You'll recall we did that back in 2000 during the convention
speeches...You watch the speech and register your feelings via a dial...It looks like
a medical ekg...

In response, President Bush reiterated Tuesday that the United States would lead a
"coalition of willing nations" to disarm Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. The United
States and Britain have insisted that no new U. N. resolution is required, but most
