President Bush announced the nomination of Florida Congressman Porter Goss to head the
CIA...Yes, a tad "inside baseball" I grant you but a Hardball story nonetheless...When
these types of folks are announced there's usually a cavalcade of vapid bonhomies that
follow but we'll watch for the dog that ain't barking...For example, how about ranking
Dem on the Senate Intel committee Jay Rockefeller? Reuters reports this...
"When Goss' name was first floated for the position, Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West
Virginia, the senior Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he would not
support someone from Congress in that job and complained Goss would be too partisan."

Also, where is Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), the chairman of the committee? I suspect
we'll have statements from both by the time we go to air...
Bush nominates Rep. Goss to lead CIA...Florida Republican is former CIA, Army
intelligence agent (MSNBC) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5658900/
The other questions we ask: What will be the relationship between the new CIA chief
and this newly created position of a National Intelligence Director? Will a CIA
Director Porter Goss resist political pressure from the neocons in this administration?
We'll talk to Senate Intel member Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and maybe he'll sort this out
for us...
The other thing we've got tonight is our famous "ad watch" segment with Steve McMahon
(Dem Ad Guy...former Dean Guy) & Rick Davis (GOP Ad Guy and a McCain guy)...We'll toss
to a number of recent political ads and get their reax...
Finally we do a straight political potpourri segment with The Hotline's Vaughn Ververs
and Norah who is traveling with the President in Florida, who by the way is
campaigning with McCain in Pensacola (the original Scarborough Country)...We'll tackle
that for sure and play some of the sound if there's any of interest...Kerry's kicking
it in Vegas today so we'll check in on what he's up to as well...
This story just blows me away...Millions of illegal aliens in the United States would
be free from arrest and deportation, have access to tax-deferred savings accounts and
Social Security credits, and get unrestricted travel to and from their home countries
under President Bush's guest-worker program. (The Washington Times)
http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20040810-123433-8727r.htm
Aren't we fighting a war on terrorism and more carefully scrutinizing people who wish
to come into this country?
Here's another one...Responding to President Bush's challenge to clarify his position,
Sen. John F. Kerry said Monday that he still would have voted to authorize the war in
Iraq even if he had known then that U.S. and allied forces would not find weapons of
mass destruction. (The Washington Post)
