The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
We follow up on the White House leak investigation as Judy Miller talks to
Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald today about recently discovered notes on
her conversations with Cheney's office (his Chief of Staff, I. Lewis "Scooter"
Libby) back in June '03...At issue, Who originally leaked the identify of
Valerie Plame? And did the Administration break the law in trying to discredit
Joe Wilson?...Plame of course is Joe Wilson's wife and works for the
CIA....Wilson was the one who busted out the Administration's claim that Iraq
was trying to buy nuclear materials from Niger...We'll also drop this little
sugar plum which just broke from the National Journal on Scooter and Judy...

In case this piece is pass code protected here's the headline
"In two appearances before the federal grand jury investigating the leak of a
covert CIA operative's name, Lewis (Scooter) Libby, the chief of staff to Vice
President Cheney, did not disclose a crucial conversation that he had with New
York Times reporter Judith Miller in June 2003 about the operative, Valerie
Plame, according to sources with firsthand knowledge of his sworn testimony.
Libby also did not disclose the June 23 conversation when he was twice
interviewed by FBI agents working on the Plame leak investigation, the sources
said."

Long before his criminal case gets a hearing in a court of law, Rep. Tom DeLay
is fighting in the court of public opinion. With his trademark zeal, he assails
the prosecutor in one sentence and portrays himself as a victim in the next.
And the media - often distrusted by fellow conservatives - is his bullhorn.
